Overview

The Micro Instrumentation Instructional
Laboratory is dedicated to providing educational experiences for undergraduate
students, graduate students, and post graduate practicing engineers
and scientists in the general area of micro systems technologies. Micro
systems technologies includes integrated circuit technologies, micromachining
technologies, precision machining technologies and micro systems packaging
technologies. Courses are offered as traditional semester based lectures
/ laboratories as well as concentrated short courses for practicing
engineers and scientists from industry.

Semester Courses

There are a number of graduate level and
undergraduate level micro fabrication courses available through the
School of Electrical & Computer Engineering
as well as the
School of Mechanical Engineering
at Georgia Institute of Technology.

MEMS Boot Camp

Emerging MEMS Fabrication Technologies

The MEMS Boot Camp is a four-day laboratory intensive
short course focused on practical training in micro systems fabrication
technologies(e.g., micromachining). The course agenda is evenly
divided between laboratory exercises and supporting lectures. The
laboratory exercises are designed to provide hands-on experience
with the dominant micro systems fabrication technologies. The attendees
will receive supporting material including a Laboratory Instructional
Manual with details of the individual laboratory exercises, lecture
notes, and a key technical reference book. The lectures and laboratory
exercises will be led by instructors with combined experience of
over 75 years in the MEMS field

This course is designed for individuals interested
in hands-on training in the latest micro fabrication technologies
for MEMS devices/systems. The course will be structured to assume
no prior knowledge of the technologies by the participants. The
course agenda is evenly divided between laboratory exercises and
supporting lectures. Lectures will be given by academic and industrial
experts in the field of advanced fabrication technologies for micro
systems. A panel discussion with the lecturers has been included
to address focused areas of interest to the participants. The laboratory
exercises are designed to provide hands-on experience with advanced
technologies such as laser ablation, stereo lithography, hot embossing,
and deep reactive ion etching. The attendees will receive supporting
material including lecture notes and a key technical reference.
